Ask Your Own Work a Useful Question

Take one document you already have and turn it into a notebook that answers your questions.

Best for

Owner-OperatorAdmin/OpsMarketingProject/Delivery

Bring this

A document you reference often (proposal, handbook, course outline, notes).

Output

A searchable notebook of your own work that answers your questions instead of making you hunt for the page.

AI Teammate

Notebook builder — ingests your document and answers questions about it.

Human-Owned Zone (HOZ)

You decide what to upload and which answers to trust.

FENCE Check

Don't upload documents containing client data, financial records, or anything under NDA. Use your own original work.

Prompt Starter

I'm going to share a document with you. After you read it, I'll ask you questions about it. Answer based ONLY on what's in the document. If the answer isn't in the document, say "that's not in here."

Here's my document: [paste or upload]

Now answer these questions:
1. What are the 3 main ideas in this document?
2. What's missing that I should add?
3. If I had to explain this to a new hire in 2 minutes, what would I say?

Work the Mission

  1. 1Pick one document you reference regularly. Upload or paste it into your AI tool (NotebookLM, Claude, ChatGPT).
  2. 2Ask the three questions above. Review the answers.
  3. 3Ask 2 more questions specific to your work — things you always look up.
  4. 4If using NotebookLM: save the notebook. You now have a searchable version of your own work.
  5. 5Try asking it something you'd normally search for in the document.

Twist Card — when AI doesn't cooperate

  • AI says "that's not in here" but you know it is? Check your formatting. PDFs with images may not parse. Try copy-pasting as plain text.
  • AI makes things up that aren't in the document? Switch to NotebookLM (grounded in your sources) or add "Answer ONLY based on the document above."
  • Document is too long? Break it into sections and create separate notebooks per section.

Want this tuned to how you actually work? Find your archetype — 7 questions, about 3 minutes.
